Dozens of people exited a Tanga Tanga WhatsApp group when a purported assassination letter of Deputy President William Ruto was posted, a court heard on Wednesday.
Mr Noah Keino, one of the administrators of the group told Magistrate Martha Mutuku that the letter caught many members off guard.
According to him, the members were scared after the information was leaked, given that it involved members of the Cabinet and the DP.
The administrator argued that since the letter was purportedly signed by a minister, the members became worried, forcing some of them to leave.
“After the letter was posted in the group by one of the members, others started leaving one by one. They said they were scared,” said Mr Keino.
He explained that it was then he started to add people in the group who were rooting for Ruto.
“I recall very well it was on June 20, 2019 when the letter was posted on the group," said Keino.
According to him, blogger Pauline Njoroge dismissed the letter as fake immediately it was posted in the group.
Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Sicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru and James Macharia were accused of plotting to assassinate the Deputy President.
However, the four dismissed the claims as fake.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has since dismissed the letter as fake.
