US Embassy Economic Council members are touring Mombasa County to asses viability of their planned investments in the port county.
While announcing their visit on Tuesday, Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho stated that the economic experts will tour Mombasa from Wednesday to Friday.
"The Economic Council members will visit @MombasaCountyKe with the view to amongst other things pay a visit to the proposed Mombasa Industrial Park site in Miritini. Our partnership looks to establishing an animal feed manufacturing hub at the Mombasa Industrial Park," Joho tweeted.
Also present in the meeting with the county boss was Agriculture Counselor Kevin Sage-EL. The United States of America plans to invest in Mombasa Industrial Park that will be established in Miritini saving Mr Joho from accusations that his kast US tour was not beneficial to Mombasa residents.
"Met and held talks with US Embassy Economic Council members Dr Heather Sveom and Mr Protus Shitero, in the company of Kevin Sage-EL, who is the Agriculture Counselor," Governor Joho announced.
Meanwhile, Mombasa county director of communications Richard Chacha defended Joho in August when some locals claimed that his US visit was a waste of taxpayers' money. According to Daily Nation, Joho was accompanied by his personal assistant David Odada, his advisers Hamisi Mwaguya and Tendai Mtana, his personal secretary, a Ms Najma, and a personal bodyguard identified as Mr Mohamed.
Some were infuriated by the photos the governor took with American socialite Paris Hilton. However, his deputy backed him and urged residents to wait for the outcome of the tour.
“Let’s wait and see what will come out of the tour before we start spinning everything. We should not introduce politics into everything that the governor is doing,” Joho's deputy Dr Kingi said as quoted by Daily Nation.
