Former President Daniel Moi's bad outweigh his good and should not, therefore, be praised for anything, says former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi Wa Wamwere.
Speaking on Saturday, the veteran politician took issue with Kenyans of the idea that things were better during Moi's tenure as compared to now, observing that they were actually worse.
He said that the now ageing leader does not deserve any praise judging by the problems he subjected Kenyans to, including imposing the single party system on them.
"Moi was not a good man. You can see how he ruled using a single party system, he should not be praised (Moi hakuwa mtu mzuri hata kidogo, angalia vile alivyotawala kwa chama kimoja, hafai kusifiwa)," he said.
The leader, one of the politicians who were sent to prison for years on Moi's orders over their push for multi party democracy was speaking on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.
He also faulted claims that Moi deliberately left power before paving way for Mwai Kibaki in late 2002, saying that he was actually forced out and never left out of will.
According to Wamwere, pressure had been piled on the leader and at the same time had been overpowered politically, leaving him with np other option.
"He never left out of will but was forced out by people, including Europeans (Hakutoka kwa kupenda kwake ila watu, wakiwemo wazungu, walisema sasa lazima utoke)," he added.
He made the remarks only a day after the death of former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe who was also accused of being a dictator before his ouster through a bloodless coup in 2017.
Mugabe, Moi's agemate, died in Singapore on Friday, and had ruled Zimambwe for 37 years during his ouster in a coup plotted by his vice and current president Emerson Mnangagwa.
