Renowned activist and socio-political commentator Boniface Mwangi has weighed in on a social media campaign for cabinet secretaries to be removed from office over the country's troubles.
Dismissing the '#FireTheseCSs' which trended on Wednesday morning, the activist called on President Uhuru to be made to resign or better still be sacked as he is the head of the country since the cabinet secretaries were appointed by him.
"New day, another silly, paid hashtag #FireTheseCSs. We should all respond with #FireThePresident or #UhuruResign. ALL Cabinet Secretaries were appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. If a company isn't doing well, you fire the CEO and if it's a football team, you fire the coach, " reads Boniface Mwangi's tweet.
This comes after a senior government official was quoted by People Daily saying the president asked government officials in a meeting at State House to explain why Kenyans have no money in their pockets yet there was a lot of money going into constructing government projects.
"The President wondered where all the money being used to construct government projects is going. In fact, he specifically asked us the question: Why are people broke; why is it that there is no money in their pockets?” the official was quoted.
The statement by the president which is believed to have fueled the creation of the '#FireTheseCSs', has elicited mixed reactions on social media, some blaming the cabinet secretaries for the country's problems.
"Many road accidents could be avoided if the CS eliminated corruption in our roads by police." tweeted Ma3Route.
"We can not trust an incompetent CS to put lives of over 45 million Kenyans at risk #FireTheseCSs", tweeted Real Martoh.
A number of companies have been forced to lay off staff as a way of coping with the harsh operational realities leading to questions about the state's commitment to creating jobs.
