A plan to impeach Kakamega County Assembly Speaker Morris Buluma has been thwarted, thanks to an intervention by county's Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Members of the County Assembly had planned to discuss Mr Buluma over claims of blocking the Auditor General's report revealing questionable expenditures in the assembly and executive.
He was also accused of absenteeism, dictatorship, representing the interest of the executive and failing to intervene after they were denied mortgages facilities.
Consequently, an impeachment motion sponsored by Khalaba Ward Rep Boniface Khalaba was set to be tabled on Thursday, September 5.
However, this was scuttled when the Governor, who the Speaker is an ally to, met the ward representatives allied to the minority ANC, Jubilee and Ford Kenya parties some five kilometres away from Kakamega Town.
Consequently, though the motion was tabled, it was throw out due to lack of quorum, as the MCAs were away for the meeting at the same time, reports the Standard.
He had also met ODM MCAs on Monday and just like the other group and attempted to convince them to abandon the plan.
When it was tabled last week, there was trouble in the house when the minority MCAs, then still angry with the Speaker, blocked him from acceding the chambers, but the hatred has since evaporated after the meeting with Governor Oparanya.
At the same time, the Speaker has denied the claims being levelled against him.
