The DP has traversed Gusii region, making remarkable 25 trips to Nyamira and Kisii Counties for the last two years. He has often termed the trips 'development tours'.

On Friday and Saturday, he visited North Mugirango, West Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba regions where he attended various fundraisers.

And nominated MCA George Mosiori has now taken a swipe at Ruto's critics, accusing them of losing touch with the people. He said Ruto's strategy will work.

"He doesn't need those handshake people. Our plan is to reach people at the grassroots and that's what the DP is exactly doing. You'll see more of such trips," he said.

"As a team, it's only people who matter and not an individual. They too have a right to support Matiang'i. It's none of our business," he added.

Dr Matiang'i's team has intensified campaigns in Gusii with proponents hailing him as a development conscious individual.

The interior minister is yet to declare interest in political seat but Senator Okong'o Mogeni among other leaders have been leading campaigns to have him run for Presidency.

Dr Ruto enjoys support from a number of MPs among them Joash Nyamoko, Vincent Kemosi, Shadrack Mose, Alfa Miruka and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
