Sources say the Tezgam Express train caught fire when two of its passengers on board were cooking breakfast on their gas stoves which later resulted to fire that burnt down three of the carriages.

Videos doing rounds on social media show three of the train's carriages engulfed in fire.

“Two stoves blew up when people were cooking breakfast, the presence of kerosene with the passengers in the moving train further spread the fire,” Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the railways' minister said.

The train's management is being blamed for the accident on grounds that they have not been implementing the rules they set, including inspecting passengers before allowing them to board.

"A tragedy that could have been avoided but ever since I can recall while travelling by train no baggage check or restrictions enforced," said Pakistani human rights minister Shireen Mazari following the accident, as quoted by Aljazeera.

Officials say most passengers died while trying to jump off the moving train to escape the fire.
