Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has called for a speedy probe into Deputy President William Ruto's claims that his life is in danger.
The DP has since claimed that some top state officials have been planning his assassination, claims that came to the limelight on Monday.
But Mudavadi who says that such remarks night plunge the nation into problems now wants serious punitive measures against the DP if found to be lying.
He also wants the DP probed. However, the remarks that come at a time when Ruto is yet to record a formal complaint or go public on the claims.
"The Deputy President should be probed and if it is ascertained that what he has alleged is not true, he should be forced to face the law," he was quoted by the Nation.
The former Vice President made the remarks at the St Thomas Anglican Church Cathedral in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County on Saturday.
He warned that it taken lightly, the matter might result in violence in the country.
"Such allegations are very dangerous and could divide Kenyans and lead to violence. The government should not take the matter lightly," he added.
He was accompanied by former Gichugu MP Martha Karua who also warned against inflammatory remarks from the political class.
"Kenyans are facing many problems and want to live in peace. Unfortunately, some leaders think only about themselves. That is why they are issuing inciting statements ... they do not care about our people," he added.
