Billionaire industrialist David Koch who was widely considered a major donor to the ruling Republican Party in the United States has breathed his last.
The news of his death was relayed to media outlets by members of his family.
Koch died at 79.
He was ranked by financial magazine Forbes as the world's 11th richest person.
Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, the venture capitalist run for the presidency in 1980 as a libertarian.
In his campaign he railed against a number of federal government agencies.
David Koch served as the vice president of the Koch Industries until 2018 when he was forced to step down over ill health.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my brother David. Anyone who worked with David surely experienced his giant personality and passion for life. Twenty-seven years ago, David was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and given a grim prognosis of a few years to live," Charles Koch, the CEO of Koch Industries, said in a statement.
"David liked to say that a combination of brilliant doctors, state-of-the-art medications and his own stubbornness kept the cancer at bay. We can all be grateful that it did, because he was able to touch so many more lives as a result, " the statement continued.
David Koch donated 100 million US dollars to help in cancer research.
