Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria now wants the Senate scrapped with immediate effect.
Kuria claims that the Senate has failed to oversight the devolved governments and must be scrapped along with the Women Representative and Members of County Assembly (MCA) seats.
In a statement on his official Facebook Page on Wednesday, the Jubilee MP accused the Senate of pretending to be protecting devolution.
"The only business of the Senators is to add various billions to the governors in the pretence of protecting devolution then turn back and demand the same from governors to protect them from Senate oversight," the vocal Jubilee MP alleged.
Kuria at the same time wants a referendum to be conducted alongside the forthcoming 2022 general election to save taxpayers coffers.
"The next referendum will be held on the 9th August 2022. This will be alongside the 2022 General Elections as the 7th ballot. We cannot be interrupting our lives in the mid-terms to hold a referendum," the MP added.
Kuria who has declared interest to contest the presidential seat in 2022 general election added, "I agree we need to remove the 1,000 nominated MCAs and Scrap the women rep positions."
In the meantime, Kuria said that Parliament can spearhead key electoral reforms ahead of the anticipated 2022 polls.
The debate on referendum continues to take centre stage with majority politicians across the political divide backing constitutional changes.
On Monday, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) co-chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and Busia Senator Amos Wako refuted media claims that it has already proposed for a referendum.
Senator Haji said his committee that came into existence after the famous March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga still collecting and compiling views from Kenyans,.
Haji assured Kenyans that the committee's report will not be politically influenced.
