Former Presidents Daniel Arap Moi and his successor retired President Mwai Kibaki have joined other leaders in mourning Zimbabwe's ex-President Robert Mugambe.
The two leaders said that the death of the founding father of the Zimbabwean nation is a big blow to the continent of Africa as well as the entire world.
The leaders said that Mugabe has left behind a rich legacy, adding that he will surely be missed after his demise. In his message of condolence, Kibaki said that Mugabe’s leadership was remarkable.
“It closes the chapter of Africa’s founding presidents whose commitment to the emancipation of the people of Africa remains enduringly remarkable. His share of downsides aside, Mugabe, no doubt, stood for the greater good of Africa,” he said.
On his part, Moi said that Mugabe stood for the blacks at the time oppression was at the peak. He noted that he fought so hard to make Zimbabwe a better place before he was removed from power.
“Alongside such compatriots as Joshua Nkomo, Leopold Takawira, James Chikerema and Ndabaningi Sithole, Mugabe brought down the seemingly indomitable hardline and racist regime of Ian Smith,” Mzee Moi noted.
Mugabe was removed from power in November 2017 through a military coup.
