More than 100 travellers who were supposed to travel by modern coast company buses have gathered at modern coast headquarter office in Mombasa to know their fate after National transport and safety authority suspended the operation in of 88 modern coast buses. The travellers demanded answers from the company since they booked the buses before where now they stand stranded.

Modern coast bus limited company engaged in a deadly accident on Thursday morning where seven people died and more than 60 others were injured in an accident that involved two modern coast buses.

The accident occurred in Kiongwani area near Salama town along Nairobi -Mombasa highway in MakuenMakueni county.

According to NTSA director-general George Njao, he said they have started the investigation over the cause of the accident.

"Over a couple of years, the authority has been looking over the operation of the modern coast bus express limited company following reports of fatal crashes," he said.

He also added that the authority has deactivated the company access to the NTSA portal as the investigation is still ongoing.

Makueni county commissioner joseph ole Naiyepian confirmed the accident. He said one of the buses headed Nairobi while the other was from Nairobi to Mombasa.

The injured 60 passengers were taken to sultan Hamud hospital where they are receiving treatment.
