A middle-aged man succumbed to injuries inflicted by an irate mob after he was nabbed robbing a resident in Tala town, Matungulu sub-county on Thursday.
The deceased and other two gang members waylaid a resident and tried to rob him before he raised an alarm.
However, the deceased was surrounded by an irate mob which descended on him with blows.
The incident was confirmed by Matungulu sub-county police commander Kipkemoi Kirui who said by the time the police arrived, the man had already sustained serious injuries.
"They were three thugs who attempted to rob a resident. He called for help and locals gathered, two of the men escaped and left the other who was beaten until he lost consciousness," said Kirui.
Kirui said the man was rushed to Kangundo level four hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
He said police have launched a manhunt for the two other men who were in the company of the suspect, but managed to escape.
Kirui observed that the police recovered a screw driver used by the thugs to scare victims, and two phones believed to be stolen.
He urged the youth to shun crime and engage in legal activities to earn themselves a livelihood.
