Speaking at Springfield City, Massachusetts on Friday, Mudavadi said that he was the whistleblower of the scandal.

The former vice president said that he assumed office at the age of 29 but he had the capacity to identify the problem.

“The person who spotted the Goldenburg scandal is Musalia Mudavadi. That is me. I was 29 years old but I went in there and I listened and understood and I realised this thing was a fraud,” he said.

In a past interview, Mudavadi dismissed claims that he is the one who masterminded the scandal. He insisted that he is the one who blocked the process, adding that the report on the saga shows the names of the persons behind the same.

"It may be very useful for very many people to read the Goldenberg report. I am the one who stopped those processes and ordered the Price Water House report," he said.

"The whole issue about Goldenberg was a government policy instituted long before I was the minister of Finance. When I came in, I ended the export compensation scheme," he added.

Mudavadi has affirmed that he will not tolerate issues of corruption as long as he remains in leadership.
