Former street girl in Eldoret town is calling for the Government and well-wishers to help her pursue her secondary education after she performed exemplary well in her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education(KCPE).
Janet Amita who comes from a poor background at the informal settlement of Langas Estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town scored 327 marks but up to now, she has not joined form one
She was schooling at Langas Golden Ghetto Primary sponsored by some church members. Amita says her mother was diagnosed with cancer last two years and she is undergoing medication in Kenyatta National Hospital and her father died while she was young.
“I want to call upon well-wishers and both the National and County as a whole to come to my rescue by helping me pursue my education since as I am talking, affording two meals per days is a miracle and as I am talking we have rent areas of 1,400 per month for two years,” she said.
The 14-year-old noted that due to the many challenges she was facing at home she decided to go to the street so that she may at least earn a living through begging.
Amita who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday said she has tried all means such as applying for Wings to Fly and Elimu sponsorship program but it has not borne fruit.
“My aim is to go to school get an education to make my dream of becoming a neurosurgeon come true that will help me help my mother whose condition is deteriorating and we are just surviving in God’s grace,” She added.
Amita got an admission letter from Anestar Girls High School Nakuru but due to fee challenges, she is still at home not knowing what to do.
