Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has lashed out at Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki over the increasing cancer deaths in the country.
Speaking exclusively to NTV in Bomet County, the outspoken legislator expressed her anger at the Health CS for failing to declare cancer a national disaster.
"I am mad at Sicily Kariuki, she is a fellow woman like myself. The minister of health doing a press conference in Nairobi and telling Kenyans that cancer cannot be declared as a national disaster because we lack data, we lack the statistics, we lack the figures to tell us how many Kenyans are dying every day, " the Laikipia woman rep said.
Cate Waruguru said that she would table a Bill in parliament that would seek to obligate the government to inject Sh14 billion to fight the scourge at the grassroots.
Her strong words were a response to the Health CS' refusal to declare cancer a national disaster as has been demanded by scores of politicians.
The Laikipia woman rep was in the county of Bomet to attend a memorial service for Governor Joyce Laboso who died of cancer after a long run with treatment.
She died hardly days after the death of Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth who also succumbed to cancer.
