No one really wishes to encounter domestic violence of any kind be it emotional or physical especially in a relationship where both partners believed they would be together forever.
You might have come across a friend, relative or a neighbour who has gone through or is currently experiencing domestic violence yet you ain't sure of what to tell them.
1. 'I would never let anyone treat me like that'
This statement makes the victim feel inferior for going through abuse. Victims of domestic violence tend to have low self-esteem and confidence. It is therefore important to reaffirm them that there are many other people who go through the same.
2. You are lying
Even though it might be not easy to believe that some partners can indulge in fights, you should not accuse a domestic violence victim that they are lying. This might traumatize them even more.
Leaving an abusive relationship might not be that easy. Most of the people going through domestic abuse are not aware of what a healthy relationship entails. It will be better if you try to help them make the right decision instead of telling them to leave.
4. What did you do to make them hit you like that?
This question forces the victim to take on the blame of making their significant others attack them. It is helpful to not poke fingers as you might not be aware of what might have transpired, however, you can support them in any way possible.
