The government has announced that there will be no more curfews at 5pm as the census exercise continues.
The new development is a big win for owners of bars and entertainment spots in the country after they were banned from operating past 5pm during the census weekend.
The curfew was declared by Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i. The CS said that the decision had been reached to pave way for smooth running of the exercise.
The general public had raised concern following the declaration.
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has said that the census officials will work until 10pm in major urban centres in the country to ensure the process is accurate and less frustrating to different groups.
"We are happy and grateful that the business community heeded to the call. The directive to close bars and other entertainment joints ended on Sunday,” said Kibicho.
The extension will benefit residents of Kisumu Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret.
The government has since assured Kenyans of their security since the process kicked off.
Matiang’i had asked the general public to comply with the directive to ensure the exercise runs smoothly. The state has also warned politicians against interrupting with the exercise after it kicked off on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
