Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has acknowledged the existence of a deep-state in Kenya, saying that the institution is behind election rigging in the country.
The senator says that contrary to the thought of many, elections are not democratic in the country, but are rather manipulated to deliver wins to the preferred candidates.
Speaking on Monday, he termed this as the reason behind ODM leader Raila Odinga's repeated losses in the presidential elections, despite having a massive backing all the time.
He suggested that the former Prime Minister has been a victim of the deep-state, which has not been in favour of his ascent to power, hence his losses.
"When you talk about deep state, Mr. Odinga has always had the people but has he won? Voting is not the issue, these things are manipulated," he said on Citizen TV's Day Break.
Mwaura also pointed out that he has personally tasted the wrath of the said deep-state, which he blamed for his loss in the Ruiru parliamentary race in the 2017 elections.
He claimed that Kenyan elections are no longer democratic exercises but rather just done for formality, as the outcome and winner declaration are engineered from elsewhere.
"Its no longer about you queuing and voting its about who counts, who announces and who gets declared," he added.
Raila has blamed three of his four presidential losses on rigging, one against former president Mwai Kibaki and two against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
