Professor Stephen Kiama's recent appointment as the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor got nullified on Friday by the Education CS Prof George Magoha. Though, Kiama on Saturday maintained that he was still the one in charge.
Magoha also dissolved the university council and appointed Prof Isaac Meroka Mbeche as the acting VC.
CS Magoha ordered Prof Kiama to remain as the Deputy VC for Human Resource and Administration until a suitable predecessor is identified to replace the former VC Isaac Mbeche.
Through a Saturday statement addressing the scholars' fraternity, embattled VC stated, "for the avoidance of doubt, my appointment still subsists."
Kiama noted that he was legally appointment and hence he would focus on discharging his duties as accorded. Kiama appreciated the entire university community for the calmness despite, "the disturbing news circulating on social media."
"In the face of these developments, I urge you to continue to remain calm, and maintain peace and order that has subsisted since my appointment," said Prof Kiama.
"Do not be given to acts of lawlessness as the peace and stability of the university are important to us all. As such, I continue in diligent service as your vice-chancellor and remain available to you all for guidance and direction," Kiama added.
He also advised all to pursue prosperity as the university vision states. The new Deputy VC Prof Madara Ogot issued a statement cancelling the Tuesday exercise which would have seen Prof Kiama installed as the VC.
