After the March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga at Harambee House, the country held its breath.
At last, Kenyans could smile after months of political distress that threatened to tear the nation apart.
It is at this time that the Building Bridges task force report team was constituted to help Uhuru and Raila to find long term solutions for the country.
The enormous task was bestowed upon the elderly but efficient Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji who steered the BBI team that presented its final report to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.
After the handover of the BBI report on Tuesday at State House, it's contents were made public on Wednesday in an event held at the Bomas of Kenya.
At 79 years, Haji commands respect. His stellar career in the public administration speaks for itself.
During his time as Provincial Commissioner, Haji was known as a no-nonsense administrator. He left behind an enduring legacy.
Even after exiting public Service, the man from Ijara was not yet done. He was immediately nominated to Parliament in 1997. In 2002, he was elected Ijara Member of Parliament on a KANU ticket. That marked a new beginning for the evergreen administrator-turned-politician.
Since 2002, Haji has been a mainstay in politics. Today, he remains one of the longest-serving legislators.
In politics, he has served almost in every position: MP, Minister and Senator.
If he chooses to retire in 2022, Haji will go home convinced that he played his role to make Kenya a better country.
