Law Society of Kenya presidential candidate Nelson Havi has revisited the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to reject the appointment of 41 judges.
In a veiled attack targeting the President, Havi noted that some Kenyans might condemn the Judiciary for postponing the swearing-in of Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro but forget about the deficit of Judges.
Nyoro was set to be sworn-in as Kiambu Governor on Thursday following the impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu.
"You all here noising that a Judge of the High Court has declined to swear in James Nyoro as Governor of Kiambu. What about making the same noise on the failure to swear in the Judges nominated by the Judicial Service Commission? Or the Government Printer is yet to print 41 Bibles!" he said.
Last year, President Kenyatta rejected 41 names forwarded to him for appointment as judges by the Judicial Service Commission.
“The President received adverse reports in respect to some of the persons recommended for appointments as judges after the names of the said judges were published in the media. The President believes that the Judicial Service Commission ought to have considered the information while arriving at its recommendation,” President Kenyatta said in an affidavit.
