Embattled Keroche Breweries Director Tabitha Karanja has reacted to President Uhuru Kenyatta's remarks that he had switched off the number that high profile individuals with legal troubles used to get to him for help.
Speaking exclusively to Media Max-owned K24 Television on Wednesday, the director confirmed that she had heard what the Head of State had said.
She, however, called for a number that individuals who are being persecuted arbitrarily can reach out to, to explain their side of the story.
"Then when I heard the president say that he has switched off the number, I said that it is better that he has one number that at least somebody can call and say, "Even if you see me being done this, this is my case", because I don't think he would want to kill any business however small or however big," the Keroche director said.
Tabitha Karanja has continued to protest her innocence, rejecting the tax evasion charges levelled against her by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
She claims that she is the victim of business competition gone rogue.
In a paid advert this week on a mainstream publication, she expressed her gratitude to Kenyans for standing with her and said that the year she is alleged to have evaded tax, she paid 7 billion shillings to KRA after making 18 billion shillings.
According to the taxman, the company evaded tax to the tune of 14.4 billion shillings.
