Consequently, public service operators have been forced to abandon Kaharati-Muthithi-Kigumo-Kangari road to avoid encounters with members of the outlawed group.

The operators say that the group had been demanding a fee for them to ply that route, this being Sh4,000 per a conductor, Sh6,000 for a driver and Sh40,000 from matatu owners.

The Nation has established that Gakura, Karuri and Muthithi are the collection points for the illegal fee, with the route only being plied by one Sacco, Kigumo Travellers Sacco.

The issue was brought to the attention of the County Commissioner Mohammed Barre during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kigumo on Sunday.

He confirmed being aware of the same, saying that his officers are looking into the matter, as some vehicles have since been granted allowance to ply the route but have been blocked.

"We are closely following the issue. There are some vehicles which have applied for licenses to ply along the road and once they are allowed, we want to know who this person who is obstructing Kenyans from doing their businesses is,” he said.

He also challenged the youth to identify lawful income generating activities, warning that those reaping where they have not sowed will be dealt with.
