A 42-year-old man committed suicide in Raini Njeke village, Lari Constituency.
The man, Martin Gathu, is reported to have hanged himself in his house.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Alice Ngugi who is the area chief said that the neighbours came to know about the incident after he spent too much time inside the house.
"No one actually knows why he decided to hang himself since the incident took place when his wife and children were not at home,” said Ngugi.
The area chief said that Gathu used to wake up very early in the morning to buy vegetables from the local people and later sell them at the market.
“His neighbours noticed that there was something wrong when he failed to wake up early and that’s why they decided to look at his house only to find him hanging on the roof,” said Ngugi.
Ngugi urged the people in his area to always share their issues and problems with family members, friends and also religious leaders instead of opting to commit suicide.
"Suicide cases have in a couple of months risen in this constituency. We always feel bad when we lose very strong and active people due to stress,” she said.
His body was later taken to Uplands funeral home by area police.
