Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has commended President Uhuru Kenyatta's meeting with leaders from the Mt Kenya region amid a growing rebellion.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Chege said that Uhuru is keen on uniting the leaders from the region following their meeting. Chege, however, remained coy over what the President discussed during the meeting.
"I will not talk much on what was discussed during the meeting but the President is very keen on uniting the region first. Aside from him being President, he is a regional leader as well," she said.
Kisumu Woman Representative Rosa Buyu, who spoke during the same interview, said that Uhuru has sent a strong message in the region.
She noted that leaders from the region had started to take Uhuru for granted until he broke his silence. The lawmaker offered that the leaders who have been chest-thumping themselves will no longer do so.
"When the cat's away, the mice will play. The President was away and the mice were really playing and chest pumping," she said.
During the meeting, Uhuru asked the leaders from the region to back the Building Bridges Initiative emphasizing that he needs the peace of mind to complete his second and final term in government.
