Deputy President William Ruto has reacted to the claim being bandied around that Kibra Constituency is the bedroom of veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking at DC grounds Kibra on Sunday, the country's second in command rubbished the claim, saying that it reeked of the highest contempt to the people of Kibra.
He said that the constituency belongs to the residents and not to individuals who have likened it to their bedrooms.
"Those guys should stop their contempt and stupidity, calling Kibra their bedroom. That is the height of contempt. Kibra is not anybody's bedroom (Sasa wale majamaa wawache madharau na wawache upuuzi. Ati wanaita hapa Kibra ati ni bedroom. Yaani madharau ya mwisho, hapa Kibra siyo bedroom ya mtu," the deputy president said.
The ODM brigade have claimed that the constituency is the bedroom of the former prime minister and that they will do anything required to fumigate it against an infestation of cockroaches, a reference to other parties that have fronted candidates in the Kibra parliamentary race.
Kibra has been a Raila Odinga turf as he has enjoyed massive support from the residents.
He served as the area member of parliament for over two decades when Kibra was still part of the larger Langata constituency.
Should he lose the seat to another party, it would rank as one of the biggest blows in the career of the ODM supremo.
The veteran opposition leader had pitched camp in the constituency for the duration of the campaign, an indication that he is not leaving anything to chance.
