With the support of other leaders from the South Rift, Ruto on Friday said that the eviction of more than 60,000 families from what is believed to be government land is inconsiderate.

He said that the move to evict the residents is likely to create a humanitarian crisis, adding that the process should be stopped with immediate effect.

The former Bomet governor accused the Jubilee government of ignoring the plight of the families as well as leaders from the region.

He also said that the matter of land in the region is very sensitive and must be handled with the seriousness it deserves.

“It is not only hypocritical, but insensitive to the rights of the people, that the government is litigating on the matter in the day and evicting settlers in the disputed area at night,” said Ruto, as quoted by Daily Nation.

He also lamented that the police are using excessive force in pushing residents from the land.

The government has asked residents of Enagishomi, Sisian, Reiyo, Enoosokoni, and Nkaroni to move out before the end of two months or else they will be kicked out.
