The leadership crisis at University of Nairobi (UoN) has taken a different twist after the court on Friday ordered Professor Stephen Kiama not to interfere with the management of the institution ahead of the ruling on Thursday next week.
On Wednesday, Prof Isaac Mbeche announced his return into office after Prof Kiama said that he had asked for leave. It also emerged that Mbeche had refused to give the Kiama access to the VC’s office.
Kiama, whose appointment was revoked by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, has insisted that he will remain put after the University of Nairobi Council appointed him to take over the management.
Mbeche said that he was not on leave as claimed by Prof Kiama Stephen. Mbeche had claimed that he came back from leave after he was asked to do so by the Ministry of Education.
“I was called to act and I came back. Therefore, the leave is deemed to have been put aside,” said Prof Mbeche.
Magoha had written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the recruitment of Kiama into office.
Mbeche and Kiama have both affirmed that they deserve the position.
The students' leaders had backed Mbeche after Magoha ordered for Kiama’s revocation.
