A section of Kisii Members of County Assembly (MCAs) has expressed discontentment following the withdrawal of Deputy Governor Joash Maangi's security.
The MCAs who spoke in Kisii on Sunday, according to Capital FM, said that the withdrawal of Maangi’s security is a political attempt to silence him.
Maangi’s security was withdrawn on Friday after a convoy of towing trucks made its way to his residences in Kisii with 12 armed police officers.
Domestic staff at his residences was compelled to give away the keys to the cars before they were taken away from the place.
Led by Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko, the leaders said that Maangi is just like any other leader in government and is entitled to full protection as provided in the law.
They said that the Deputy Governor is being fought for championing in the fight against corruption-related cases in the county.
“We all know that corruption is fighting back, and the ongoing intimidation of our Deputy Governor is a clear indication of it all,” said Apoko, as quoted by Capital FM.
The MCAs also challenged Kisii Governor James Ongwae to handle the problems of the county and not fighting his deputy.
The DG has been one of the closest allies of Deputy President William Ruto.
