Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri could face the wrath of President Uhuru Kenyatta over his continued participation in politics.
On Thursday, Mr Kiunjuri joined at least 40 legislators from Mt Kenya region to express reservations for impending Building Bridges Initiative report.
The BBI team is expected to handover the report to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga next week, with sources indicating that it could propose a referendum.
But Mt Kenya leaders under the leadership of Kiunjuri and Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni warned that the region will not support Parliamentary system.
“The BBI must address the issues of under-representation in Central Kenya. We want the principle of one man one vote respected,” Kioni said.
With the opposition expected, it's however the presence of Kiunjuri which could yet again expose him to President Uhuru Kenyatta's wrath.
Early this year, Uhuru issued a stern warning to his cabinet, insisting that those involved in politicking face a possible sack.
"During today's Cabinet meeting I reminded our Cabinet secretaries that there are many young Kenyans who are willing and ready to work if they felt they are not up to task.
"Those who have chosen to keep politicking instead of serving the people should be ready to give way," President Kenyatta said.
Unconfirmed reports also indicate that President Uhuru Kenyatta recently warned Gender and Youths Chief Administrative Secretary Rachael Shebesh against dragging his name into Kibra by-election politics.
