Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is preparing to file a lawsuit against Governor Mike Sonko.
The vocal senator claims the flamboyant county boss defamed him in a social media post made on November 22, 2019.
Sakaja, in a demand letter, had given the governor 48 hours to retract his alleged defamatory statement and issue an apology, but Sonko failed to do so within the ultimatum given to him.
The senator confirmed to the Star newspaper that he was going to court after his demands for an apology were not met within the 48 hours.
"So it’s going to court next week," Sakaja told the Star.
According to the lawsuit filed through Issa and Company Advocates, Sakaja claimed the governor named him as being part of MPs who were bribed by a land grabber.
In the post, Sonko claimed Sakaja and Makadara MP George Aladwa had pocketed over 1.5 million each from Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo.
"Our beloved Nairobi MPs received 250,000/= from the land grabber through the ousted leader of impunity and corruption who is also the Matopeni MCA.
"George Aladwa met with Matopeni MCA Abdi Hassan Guyo at his Town House Office where he was handed the press statement read by the MPs together with Sh5 Million to share with the MPs... Sakaja received Sh1.5 Million from the Sh5 Million collected by Aladwa from Guyo, Aladwa kept Sh1.5 Million for himself. However, when they came to the MPs, Aladwa and Sakaja lied to the MPs that they had received only Sh2 million from Guyo and shared with the MPs Sh250,000 each (for 7 MPs) and Sakaja also took another Sh250,000," Sonko' post read in part.
