A woman identified as Eunice Moraa is currently receiving treatment at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) after her brother-in-law, Joshua Ogaro reportedly cut off her palm.
According to Moraa, she was facing recurrent fights with Ogaro over a family land in Sengera area in Bomachoge Chache.
She further explained that the land dispute started after she tilled it, an act which her brother-in-law is totally against.
"He has been beating me every time I visit the farm. I was cutting nappier grass when he approached me with a machete. Nobody was at home when he committed the crime," Moraa told Standard.
Speaking after visiting the woman, Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era urged the leaders to come out and condemn such crimes.
She asked the police to arrest the man behind the crime who is currently in hiding.
"These cases have become a menace in our community. This is a call to our leaders to come out and speak against these vices," Ong'era said.
The Woman Rep noted that his office in partnership with the county government of Kisii will build a rescue centre to house Gender-Based Violence (GBV) victims.
Dr Enock Ondari of KTRH asserted that the hospital receives over 200 GBV victims per month despite the calls by stakeholders to conduct civic education against the vice.
