The fake account had a post hitting out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his endorsement of former Harambee Stars forward McDonald Mariga in the Kibra parliamentary race.

The post accused President Kenyatta of being dishonest in his handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

"Our long held fear about the so called handshake has been confirmed. Uhuru Kenyatta was never honest about it. He has betrayed us and we shall revisit. Party to issue comprehensive statement tomorrow. Kitaeleweka!" the fake post read.

In a Wednesday evening post on Facebook, Mr Sifuna reacted swiftly, sharing the screenshot of the post with the word FAKE embossed on it.

He told his followers to watch out as it was fake news.

"Watch out for FAKE NEWS," his post read.

It was not immediately clear what the motive behind the post by the dubious Facebook account was.

President Kenyatta came out for the first time to publicly support Mariga ending speculation on who he would support.

Mariga will contest against ODM's Imran Okoth, Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo, Ford-Kenya's Ramadhan Butichi among other candidates.

Kibra has long been an ODM turf.
