The death probe of slain fifth year engineering student at Egerton University Njoro main campus has kicked off.
Preliminary postmortem results indicated that David Ongeri was seriously attacked using a sharp object suspected to be a panga.
The case stirred anger and sorrow among students at the learning institution, who have called upon hostel owners outside the university to put up measures that will help curb cases of insecurity.
Led by their students chairman Elly Muriungi, the students have urged the hostels owners to install CCTV cameras and employ responsible and professional security guards from registered security firms, instead of private guards who have no clue about manning.
Moreover, the student leaders who were speaking at Egerton University funeral home after the postmortem, urged the university administration to liaise with hostel owners and managers in ensuring that those staying outside the university are secured.
However, some have speculated that the death of Ongeri formerly of Alliance High school might have resulted from a love triangle saying that love matters have been affecting most university students in the recent past.
On the other hand, the family of the deceased led by Prof Elijah Siringi said the lose is too much to bear, adding that they have lost a key member of the family.
Siringi urged government agencies to conduct their investigations diligently and ensure that the culprits are brought to book, adding that the government has taken long to probe the death of their son.
