Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday offered to transport the bodies of the Likoni Ferry Tragedy to their final rest places.

The first-time governor send his team to the home of the deceased ahead of the burial. 

Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu  perished after their car slipped off the ferry into the Ocean.

Sonko's team condoled with the widower of the deceased John Wambua  during the visit. The governor pledged to stand with the family during this moment of trial. 

"The Sonko Rescue Team was today in Tudor, Mombasa County at the home of Likoni ferry accident victims, Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu to comfort the family especially the widower Mr John Wambua as we prepare for their burial on Saturday.

"Tomorrow, my team will help the bereaved family to transport the bodies to their home in Makueni County ahead of the burial.May God rest their souls in eternal peace," he Sonko said.

The deceased's bodies were retrieved from the Likoni Ferry Crossing channel 13 days after the tragic incident. 

Wambua had faulted the Kenya Ferry Services over the deaths of the two. President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday announced the firing of the KFS board following the incident. 

He faulted the team over laxity at work before sending them packing.
