A political storm is brewing in Ukambani as leaders from the region battle to lead Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) popularization tours.
The fight has caused confusion after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka declared his support for the report while his ally-turned fiercest critic Former Senator Johnstone Muthama appealing to the community to reject the document.
The closeness between ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga with governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) has caused more confusion.
As the leaders figure out who will lead the campaigns in the region, Deputy President William Ruto is not ready to stop at anything from attempting to woo Kalonzo to his camp as he seeks to rise to power in 2022.
Kenyan ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua have insisted that Raila can only manage to penetrate the region with the report if he fronts Kalonzo told Raila he can only penetrate Ukambani through Kalonzo and not the three governors.
“Let it be known today that the lower eastern region is in full support of the BBI, but that direction will be given by one person, his Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, any other road on the BBI in this region is null and void,” he said during a funeral.
The three governors have been asking Kalonzo to resign and pave way for an energetic and youthful leader to take over the leadership mantle.
