Despite being thousands of miles away, Mr Walter Omwenga's effect at the local level in Nyamira cannot go unnoticed.
For months now, Omwenga has been pulling strings within Nyamira County, using his proxies to initiate a number of projects among the local community.
Mr Omwenga, who moved to United States a couple of years ago, is the founder of Omwenga Foundation, which coordinates a number of philanthropic activities within Nyamira.
The foundation has been doing among others, donating sanitary towels to young girls, fixing water problems and empowering people living with disabilities.
In an interview on Thursday, Omwenga said the foundation has nothing to do with his political aspirations, which have seen a group of politicians monitor him.
"I run the foundation passionately. It's apolitical and I thank God for that. Our aim is to reach people from around the world and assist where we can," he said.
Sources within Kitutu Masaba constituency intimate that a number of local politicians are keen to ensure that he's completely distabilised.
"He's moving waves and we are monitoring him. It's not going to be easy and I can assure you that. We shall not make it easy for him," said a campaigner to Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose.
While Omwenga is yet to declare any interest, there have been reports that he's planning to run for Kitutu Masaba MP seat. He could neither deny nor confirm.
"Let's cross the bridge when we reach there. It's not good to talk about that now. I'll continue working with our people closely," he said.
Previously, Omwenga has been working closely with a number of politicians, key among them Walter Nyambati, a one time Kitutu Masaba MP and Nyamira gubernatorial polls runners up.
