The latter is among the many travelers whose plans have been shattered thanks to the heavy traffic snarl-up along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Okumu who left Nairobi on Friday night, hoping to be in Ugenya by morning, has already missed the function, after the vehicle he is boarding was caught up in the crazy snarl-up.

"I left Nairobi on time but look, I cannot attend a family function that made me travel because of traffic snarl-up," he told the Standard on Saturday.

He says that the situation has been worsened by indiscipline drivers, some of whom were overlapping, which has rendered traffic police officers trying to control the situation helplessly.

"Police came to help clear the road but there was nothing much they could do because of indisciplined motorists," he added.

He added that their vehicle got caught up in the snarl-up some five kilometers from the Gig Gil weighbridge where the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) is doing some road construction.

Okumu is just one of the many passengers, most traveling to Western parts of Kenya, who spent the night on the road due to the heavy jam.

Here is a video of the actual situation on the road.
