The Abagusii people should not queue during 2022 presidential polls to vote an outsider if one of their own is not on ballot, a top lawyer has urged.
There have been calls to have Dr Fred Matiang'i contesting in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is set to retire in 2022.
Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae have been leading the crusade, arguing that Matiang'i has qualities to take over from Uhuru.
The Interior Minister has been evading the subject even though he's believed to be financing the group pushing for his candidature.
Lawyer Steve Mogaka on Sunday said Abagusii community should ensure they only vote for one of their own, adding that the State House chances are real.
"If you're a Kisii and you want to vote in 2022, ensure you only vote one of our own. If there is no such a person on ballot, then don't bother voting," he said.
"We have numbers and we must support one of our own. This is the right time to field a formidable candidate in 2022 polls," added Mr Mogaka.
In 2002, former powerful minister Simeon Nyachae finished third in the race that saw Mwai Kibaki resoundingly beating Uhuru Kenyatta.
Before, former Kitutu Masaba MP George Anyona lost in 1992 and 1997. He's considered as one of the greatest leader in history of Abagusii.
