The County Government of Nyamira is determined to ensure that health services in the area are available within a radius of 3 kilometers by 2022.
Addressing the media in his office Wednesday, the Department’s County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Mr Douglas Bosire noted that the department, since inception of devolution, has worked towards achieving the dream and that it will be practical by the time Governor John Nyagarama exits the stage.
He said over 22 new health facilities have been built and equipped since 2013 and that the existing 94 facilities, then, have either been upgraded or facelifted.
“We are working towards ensuring that our people find it easy to access health services and to achieve this, we are working towards ensuring that after every radius of 3 kilometers, there exists a health facility that’s fully operational.
"Already we have done and equipped 22 new health facilities since Nyamira county government came into being and also made the 94 then existing facilities fully operational to bring the essential services to the people and by 2022, I hope our dream of having the facilities after every 3 Kilometers is realized,” he said.
The CECM said that so far the County government and the department of health services has achieved 70% of the objective. Also over 20 maternity wards and several staff house have also been built and operationalized in at least every health center.
“We have an intentional plan of strengthening our primary care. We have developed a bill known as Nyamira County Community bill which will enable us bring on board community health volunteers from the eight community units in Nyamira County to work as messengers to encourage the community to utilize the healthcare services which we are continually improving,” he added.
He also noted that service delivery in major facilities within the County have improved than they were before devolution.
