A section of leaders from Western Kenya region have claimed that Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali is missing and issued the government with an ultimatum to reveal his whereabouts.
Speaking in Mumias, the leaders led by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa promised unspecified consequences if the MP is not produced.
''If they do not tell us where our brother Washiali is, they should prepare themselves for the consequences (Tunawapatia 2 hours from now, kama hawatatuambia mahali ndugu yetu Washiali ako wakuwe tayari kukutana na consequences),'' Rashid Echesa said on Saturday.
The leaders had been planning to hold a rally at the Mumias Stadium to rival another one being held at the Bukhungu Stadium to discuss the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Law enforcement authorities issued a letter cancelling the Mumias meeting over fears of potential security breaches.
Tanga Tanga politicians from Western region said that the Mumias meeting was aimed at discussing the economic issues facing the Western region and how they can be resolved going forward.
They rubbished the BBI meeting at Bukhungu saying that it was a waste of time aimed at advancing the interests of individuals.
The BBI debate continues to fan divisions in the country few months after it was launched to the public.
