Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, Mudavadi asked the government to control its appetite for foreign borrowing.

He noted that the country's economy has continued to suffer because of the high-interest rates these loans attract adding there is a need for the government to find alternative ways of funding its projects rather than through foreign debts.

"Kenya is on the wrong path on borrowing loans. Some of the loans have a short repayment period. We must borrow in a manner we are able to repay within comfort," he said.

He also said that the economy has been performing poorly because of the loans urging the government to ensure that the issue of lack of jobs is addressed.

Mudavadi further said that corruption is partly to blame for the failing state of the economy, adding that the Jubilee government must arrest the situation.

"The economy is a challenge for Kenya- we are not doing well where it matters- in job creation, we are still grappling with huge public debt, high taxation and corruption," he added.
