Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roselyn Akombe has made commends on President Uhuru Kenyatta's comments on remittances made by those living in diaspora during Jamhuri celebrations on Thursday.
Since she left the country in 2017, Akombe has often criticised the governance in the country, raising issues about corruption and violation of human rights.
During Jamhuri Day celebrations, Uhuru had lauded the significant impact of the people in the diaspora in contributing to the progress of Kenya's economic growth.
"To signify the changing fortunes of our homeland, diaspora remittances grew by 10.9% from Sh266 billion to Sh295 billion between June 2018 and June 2019," Uhuru had said.
The rise in remittances is a reflection of a large number of Kenyans trooping to the West in search of greener pastures.
And in a rejoinder, Akombe seemed to allude that the immigration by Kenyans to the diaspora is engineered by tough living conditions in the country.
"We agree with you sir, the changing fortunes of our homeland have led many to leave the country in search of opportunities elsewhere," she said.
Akombe sneaked out of the country days to October 26th 2017 presidential repeat poll, accusing IEBC of colluding with unknown people to rig polls.
Her exit left IEBC badly injured with three other Commissioners resigning following power wrangles within the commission.
