Police officers in Kisumu County are holding two men after Obwolo Primary School in Kisumu East was broken into and learning material stolen on Saturday night.
According to the school's headteacher Peter Opasi, the thieves stole a gas cylinder, a projector and a public address system after breaking in through the office of his window.
He said that the thieves also broke into adjacent offices and the staffroom where they also stole a wireless phone and other learning materials.
"These people may have had enough time to do all the damage checking on the kind of movement they made in these offices,” said the teacher.
The teacher said that he reported the incident to the police on Sunday, leading to the arrest of two school guards, George Chuchu and Sepeta Ole Kashu, who were on duty on the material day.
The incident was confirmed by Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu who said that the suspects are helping the police with investigations.
“The suspects are helping police to put together a preliminary report about the matter, and they are likely to be arraigned in court tomorrow,” said the police boss.
Consequently, learning activities were on Monday morning interrupted as teachers tried to analyse the loss incurred and assemble teaching materials that were scattered all over.
