Political analyst Herman Manyora has predicted a major union of leading political figures against Third Way Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot and his push for constitutional changes.
Aukot's Punguza Mizigo push seeks to reduce the number of elective seats for a more affordable government, and has since been pushed to the county assemblies for approval.
But Manyora argues that though the former presidential aspirant seems to be basking in the admiration of Kenyans now, he should brace for strong opposition from the political class.
He says that most will rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who are pushing for a different referendum, to create more executive seats.
According to Manyora, the idea will be to cripple the Punguza Mizigo and enable Raila and Uhuru have their way, as the politicians seek to get included in the Raila-Uhuru 2018 union.
"The handshake has created many orphans, there are many people dangling between the handshake and other things. These people would be happy to kill Punguza Mizigo so that they give a chance to the BBI," he said.
BBI is the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) am initiative formed by the two leaders after their March 9, 2018 truce to spearhead their union and national cohesion campaigns.
Manyora made the remarks on his YouTube analysis channel Take It or Leave It on Saturday.
He added that many more politicians will come on board with the hope that they will get a piece of the larger government that had been proposed by the two leading politicians.
"These people will be happy to kill the bill so because the handshake team referendum will then create positions to be filled by the many orphans," he added.
Uhuru and Raila has proposed the formation of the Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministerial slots, which they say will take the attention off the presidency as is the case now.
But the changes are facing opposition from Deputy President William Ruto, who argues that the plot is to form seats for election losers.
Uhuru and Ruto have remained silent on Aukot's bill.
