Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i on Sunday clashed with Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot in a heated political exchange during the burial of the late Stephen Mogeni in Nyamira County.
Cheruiyot took it to the podium to allege that Matiangi met with Deputy President William Ruto to stop his impeachment six months ago from a section of ODM politicians.
"Nearly six months ago there are people who brought a motion in parliament about CS Matiangi and they pushed it to the senate. That day received a tough call from Deputy President William Ruto and he summoned me to his office where on arrival, I met both Ruto and Matiang'i," said Cheruiyot.
"Deputy President asked me about the alleged impeachment of Matiang'i and I told him the claims were false. When I went back to parliament I summoned all Jubilee MPs out and we threw that motion away," added Cheruiyot.
In his response, a furious Matiangi dismissed the allegation terming them as stupid lies meant to ruin his relationship with his community and Kenyans at large.
"Senator Cheruiyot, I was raised in a christian family. I don't lie. You have lied to my people here that you called me to a meeting with the Deputy President. I have never sat in that kind of a meeting. You know this is this is the kind of stupidity people bring here to lie to our people. Those are stupid lies," Matiang'i fired back.
This is the very first time the CS has engaged in an exchange with a politician in the public arena.
