Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi has waded into the 2022 succession debate saying the next Head of State will not come from the Kikuyu or Kalenjin communities.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator said the two communities have 'exhausted' their chances having produced all the presidents since independence.
Responding after Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit told off those against Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, Atandi said Kenya needs a leader from a different tribe.
"The next president will not be a Kikuyu or Kalenjin. You have already exhausted your 4 chances since Independence. Your (Kalenjins) case has also been made worse by the criminal, corruptible, land grabbing elements your Panter," the MP tweeted on Saturday night
Cheruiyot had said the DP is qualified to seek the presidency and likened those opposing his bid on grounds he is a Kalenjin to those who were allegedly planning for his assassination at La Mada hotel in Nairobi.
"Kalenjins won't be on the ballot in 2022. William Ruto will present his credentials like any other qualified Kenyan and seek support all over including ours. The monkey business of LaMurder types hawking fear down on us whenever we address issues affecting our people should cease," he said.
The calls against a Kikuyu or Kalenjin ruling after 2022 have been gaining momentum and various leaders among them Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo have supported them.
Also renowned lawyers Prof Makau Mutua and Donald Kipkorir have warned Kenya will take a dangerous route if the two communities continue to dominate the country's leadership.
"Take this to the bank. The political experiment called Kenya will die if either a Kalenjin or Kikuyu becomes Kenya’s PRESIDENT in 2022 — the only two groups that have colonized that office since independence. Act wisely and thank me later," Mutua said.
