Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has once again lashed out at the church for failing to help in the intensified purge on the corruption menace.
The former Prime Minister has more than once urged church leaders to reject money from politicians, whose source cannot be explained, terming it proceeds of graft.
On Wednesday, he again faulted the church for accepting unexplained donations from political players, which he noted is equivalent to sanitizing ill-gotten wealth.
"Church leaders stand guilty as charged if they are going to bed with those who troop in every Sunday with donations whose sources are questionable," said the leader.
Raila spoke in Bondo, Siaya county, during a Christmas service at the Nyamira ACK Church.
The leader stated that on the contrary, the church should be in the front line in pushing for accountability among politicians and be fully involved in the war against corruption.
He said that as things stand now, the church leadership is slowly being sucked into graft and needs to be liberated.
"The Church itself needs prayers to be liberated from the yoke of corruption that is creeping into its leadership," he added.
His remarks on the church and corruption has largely been seen as a direct attack on Deputy President William Ruto, who is known for his generous church donations.
