A section of ODM leaders from Nyamira have faulted 'excitements' from a section of Jubilee politicians allied to DP William Ruto following decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to endorse McDonald Mariga.
President Uhuru on Wednesday endorsed the former footballer for Kibra by-election, a move that came amid differences within the ruling party.
But ODM Youth Leader Dennis Marube said Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga had nothing to do with strangling political parties' democracy.
"I am shocked that Tanga Tanga people are celebrating as if ODM blocked Uhuru from endorsing Mariga. The handshake had nothing to do with muzzling people's political rights," he said.
Former Manga MCA Peter Maroro said the president was within his rights to support a Jubilee candidate, adding that the orange party has never asked for favours.
"As ODM, we have always believed in hardwork. The president has his rights and we have never asked for favours from his with regard to Kibra. I don't know why the other side is excited."
Despite Uhuru's latest endorsement, a section of leaders led by Maina Kamanda, who supports Uhuru, have vowed to support ODM candidate Imran Okoth.
Kibra seat was left vacant following the death of Ken Okoth in July this year. Mariga is facing internal opposition from ODM, with some leaders insisting that he was forced to contest but by DP Ruto.
